Words That Help You Heal

TAKE BACK THE NIGHT

Write about a time when you didn’t take action but wish you had. What would you do differently?

You ask me a question about what I might change?

If given a chance to go back and rearrange?

A nightmare I live with and can never escape?

I’d take back the night of my long ago rape.

I’d take back my life and put him to death.

Send him to jail where I won’t smell his breath.

I’d finally get sleep and no longer feel scared.

I’d be happy with all the other women I’d spared.

I’d finally be whole. The best version of me.

But I was too weak. And all I did was flee.
